Great Expectations

Nov 18, 2011

By Silvia Pendleton, Director of Marketing and Membership

I’ve been on a high since the TSSA Annual Convention ended.  Maybe it was just me but the mood was contagious.  I should’ve known it would be a great convention after all it was our 25th anniversary, and who doesn’t love a good excuse to throw a party?  Of course the education sessions were top-notch and the planning was meticulous, but it’s the attendees that determine whether an event is successful.

From the moment the doors to the exhibit hall opened, you could feel the excitement and the expectations for a good show.  We also had great expectations for the charitable fundraising.  How could we go wrong with the Jeep donated by Global Roofing and the Club Car golf carts donated by TBRC Roofing on full display in the middle of the exhibit hall?  We knew we would be able to make a sizeable donation to the Shriners Hospital for Children in Galveston.  We just didn’t know how much this auction would inspire others to give!

About two weeks ago, Hank Daughtry called our office to tell us how inspired he had been at the convention and how he wanted to add to the annual donation made to the Shriners Hospital for Children.  He issued a challenge to match all donations received through December 15 up to $25,000!  Daughtry Properties and Professional Management, Inc. decided to help us reach the $100,000 donation level in honor of TSSA’s 25th Anniversary.

When Charitable Fundraising Chairman Doug Hunt heard about the challenge he had great expectations from the very start and he knew we could reach the goal.  I’ve worked with Doug on the fundraising committee for almost four years now and I knew that he’d do his absolute best to meet the goal.  I just didn’t know how hard he would work to get there!

He expected the best from everyone that he contacted and that’s exactly what he got.  Everyone has responded with such generosity and enthusiasm, that you can’t help but be inspired.  The goal was met as of yesterday morning and upon hearing that, Hank Daughtry decided that he could sweeten the pot a little bit more…he’s now increased the matching amount to $28,000!!

This will indeed be a record breaking year for the fundraising efforts and we know that the money will make a difference in the lives of many children.  After having witnessed the effort and dedication that has gone into meeting the challenge, I have great expectations for the new goal.  I’ve seen it in action…if you expect the best, that’s exactly what you get!  I’m expecting more great responses from our members!!

Thank you to each and every one who has donated to the auction, the poker tournament and the donation challenge!  You're the best!
