Storage Wars Auctioneers at TSSA Trade Show Oct. 16

Sep 07, 2012

by Ginny Sutton, TSSA Executive Director

A&E's Storage Wars TV show has swept the country and become the network's most watched show in its history.  When the first season of the show was being planned in 2010, I received some frantic phone calls from members who believed that type of show would give the self-storage industry a black eye and that the scrutiny of existing lien laws could cause real problems.

Instead, the show has raised the profile of self storage as an industry, and given millions of viewers pause about forgetting to pay their storage rent.

Granted, some in our industry still haven't warmed to the show, and believe quite rightly that it doesn't present an accurate picture of what actually happens at real lien auctions, But few can deny that the significant impact of the TV show on the industry is two-fold.  1) More bidders show up for storage auctions hoping to find treasures, and 2) more customers than ever are realizing that there are consequences for not paying storage rent.

Dan and Laura Dotson Storage Wars auctioneers

In addition to the five real auction bidders featured on the show, the auctioneer husband-wife team Dan and Laura Dotson have become stars in their own right.   At recent industry events, attendees lined up to have their photos taken with the Dotsons, or to have items autographed.

But, only one industry trade show will feature the Dotsons doing what they do best as actual auctioneers...TSSA's trade show on October 16 at the San Antonio Convention Center!  The Dotsons will be helping TSSA raise funds for the Shriners Childrens Burn Hospital by auctioning items like a brand new black Jeep Wrangler donated by Global Roofing, a new EZ-GO golf cart, fabulous stays in Crested Butte and the Virgin Islands, and much more! Check out some of the items up for auction this year.

So, grab your checkbook, along with your iPhone or other device with a camera or video and come witness as the TSSA 2012 convention and our members become part of the Storage Wars lexicon.
