Ideas Abound

Dec 07, 2012

by Brom Hoban, TSSA Director of Communications

One of the joys of working with other people is the sharing of ideas. This was quite evident last week when I had my first conference call with the 2013 Communications Committee. As communications director for TSSA, I work directly with the Communications Committee, which is responsible for providing guidance for TSSA resources like our magazine and website.

Our first call focused on developing an editorial calendar for the 2013 Self-Storage News. Though I know a fair amount about the self-storage industry- the folks on the committee are the true experts. They are the ones who own and operate facilities and they are the ones I look to for expert advice on what kinds of articles and content would best benefit TSSA members.

Committee members on the call, which included Amy Nolan, Chair, The Storage Place; Paul Glover, Storage Choice; Kimberly Blietz, Safeguard Mini Storage, and Kelly Beevers, Hixon Properties, were extremely helpful in sharing their ideas for themes and articles for the upcoming year.

For the January-February issue, we’ll be looking at how you can become a “smooth operator,” and we’ll talk about ways of taking your operations to the next level, and how to best manage your time. We’ll be following that up in March-April with a “development primer,” helping those entering the industry to get off on the right foot. We’ll also be looking at details like architectural considerations.

In the May/June issue of Self-Storage News, we’ll cover Looking Good: Presenting Your Best Face to the Community- always a great subject. Come July-August- you’ll read all about building relationships with your tenants, and we’ll cover “innovation” in our Convention issue in September. We’ll wrap up the year with our November-December issue, which will take a look at “Property Management Best Practices.”

I’m confident you’ll get a lot of your own ideas from reading the 2013 issues of the Self-Storage News, and remember, you can always access the digital editions here.
