News About TSSA Members Busy Building, Acquiring, or Developing

Robert Loeb, Jeff Bailey, and Brian Cisarik of SurePoint Self Storage announced plans for a third property in the Houston market.  The two-acre property is located on Barker-Cypress, ¾ mile south of US 290.  The SurePoint team will begin construction on a Class A, three-story building consisting of 123,000 square feet later this summer.  They also have two other projects in the Houston area set to begin construction in the next 60 days; a three-story, 110,000 square foot facility on Spring Cypress Road just east of Grant Road in Cypress, and a four-story building in Richmond near Highway 59 and the Grand Parkway.

Additionally, the SurePoint Self Storage developers have just completed two new projects in San Antonio, with a third is under construction.  SurePoint-FM 1103, located at the corner of Interstate 35 and FM 1103 in Schertz, opened in February; SurePoint- Shavano, located at the corner of NW Military Drive and George Road in northwest San Antonio, opens in early May.  The third location, on Bulverde Road at Roseheart, is set to open at the end of this year.

The Highland Village City Council approved a zoning amendment to the property located on the east side of FM 2499 south of the KCS railroad tracks. The developer proposes building an indoor public storage facility on the property. The proposed indoor storage facility required an amendment to the zoning ordinance and a public hearing. The first public hearing was held and approved the amendment to allow mini-warehouse, self-storage in the planned development. The council will consider the second read for the proposed zoning amendment to the property on FM 2499 proposed to be a Public Storage facility at their next meeting.

Storage Choice
recently announced plans to begin construction on a six-story, 130,000 sq. ft. facility in downtown Dallas. The facility will be located in the redeveloping Farmers Market area - between Canton St. and Commerce, next to I-45. The class A facility will include 1,000 climate controlled units; as well as wine storage. “The Farmers Market site will be our 13th location,” said Paul Glover of Storage Choice. “We are very excited about this property and its location.” The project is scheduled to open in the first quarter of 2016.

Access Storage
in Boerne held a celebration on March 2 to commemorate the expansion of their facility. The new building offers both climate and non-climate units. They invited the local Chamber and even had Boerne's next young entrepreneur, Colton Schroeder, giving samples from his Squeeze Me Lemonade Stand.

Amazing Spaces® Storage Centers has confirmed construction plans on its fifth property, located on FM 2978 and Research Forest Drive in The Woodlands. The approximately 103,000 square foot property will feature secure storage solutions with premium amenities. The property has a planned opening date of March 2016. In addition, a sixth Amazing Spaces property, with an approximate square footage of 98,000, is also in development and scheduled to open in the fall of 2016. This property will be located 0.8 miles from the new Exxon campus, just south of The Woodlands.

Brad Tidwell has received approval of a specific use permit for a self-storage facility near the corner of Miles Avenue and Southwest Wilshire Boulevard in Burleson. The proposed 30-foot-tall facility would be more than 100,000 sq. ft. and allow users to drive into the facility to unload items for storage, making it different from anything the city already has.

Rosewood Property Co. (RPC) also recently announced a new $75 million program with its Dallas-based partner, Cornerstone, to develop multi-story and drive up self-storage facilities in infill locations in core metro markets including Dallas/Fort Worth, Austin, San Antonio, Houston, Denver and Kansas City.  ------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rocket Self Storage in Converse has received approval from the City Council for a zoning change to allow for future expansion at its FM 78 property, which it has operated for the past 16 years. The Fields of Dover Homeowners Association currently owns the parcel of land but intends to sell it to Rocket Self Storage following the zoning change.
