Katie Cowen, Move It Storage


With more than 13 years of experience in the self-storage industry, Katie Cowen currently serves as Director of IT for Move It Storage. Beginning her career in the industry as a site manager, Katie went to work for Move It in November 2011, where she moved into a district manager position with three years and has been promoted several times.  Katie analyzes and manages revenue activity for more than 120 sites across the country.

With both site and corporate experience, Katie has participated as a co-presenter, panelist and round table facilitator numerous times at the TSSA annual conference. She has also served on both the TSSA Conference and Publications committees. Katie also presented at the SSA national conference in 2021 and is a member of the Storable Client Advisory Board (CAB). 
She is a member of the national Project Management Institute and local chapter of PMI and has achieved the PMP certification. Katie also attained a Six Sigma Green Belt certification in process, strategy and decision-making improvement.

A fly fishing fan, Katie is a member of the Texas Women’s Flyfishers non-profit organization and the Dallas Fly Fishers Club.  She and her two teenaged daughters live in Dallas.

Katie attained both her Bachelor’s of Business and Masters of Business degrees from Western Governor’s University, an online education provider. 
 


John McAfee, The Storage Place - DFW


Owner and asset manager of 15 facilities in rural markets in North and East Texas. John first became involved in self storage in May 2005 as part of the family’s business in Montana. After a career in executive recruiting and placement, John turned his attention full-time to developing the family-owned business’ portfolio of self-storage assets in Texas.

Selling most of their portfolio in the fall of 2021, John and his team have rebuilt the portfolio via acquisitions again. Twelve of the company’s facilities are now remotely managed as the firm continues to explore enhancements to technology.

John has served on the TSSA board since being elected in 2019 and has served on the Large Operator Task Force and the Government Affairs Committee. He has facilitated round table discussions on employee recruitment and helped with planning the annual executive retreat event.

John also owns an asphalt and dirt work company based in Waxahachie.

John attended Harding University before transferring to play baseball at Rice University, where he earned his Bachelor of Arts in Managerial Studies and Economics. He and his wife live in Frisco and have two grown children.
 

 

 


Shrenik Shah, Montfort Capital Partners


Co-Founder and Partner of Montfort Capital Partners (MCP), Shrenik Shah’s career began while working in his family’s retail business. He was instrumental in the leasing and eventual disposition of the business. After exiting the family business, Shrenik co-founded MCP, an investment firm focusing on the self-storage sector. 

Although Shrenik leads the asset management and development efforts, he also assists in acquisitions and investment relations/fundraising. To date, MCP has acquired 10 assets with a projected market value of over $200 million. 

A licensed real estate agent with membership in the Texas Association of Realtors and the Collin County Association of Realtors, Shrenik uses his real estate experience as part of his company’s commercial real estate acquisitions. He previously served as the Controller/VP of Taj Grocers, the family business operating as a full-service South Asian supermarket chain. His roles included management of payroll, accounts payable/receivables, reporting and financial analysis.

Shrenik earned his Bachelor’s degree in Psychology & Business from the University of Texas in Austin and his Master’s of Accounting from the University of Texas in Dallas.
